For what it’s worth, I think very old people should retire, especially from Congress.

At age 80, Ed Markey is too old to be elected to a six-year term as a Massachusetts senator. I voted for his 47-year old primary opponent Seth Moulton—a Harvard graduate (Physics Major), multi-term U.S. Representative, decorated Marine Corps veteran, and married father of two daughters.

The main objection to Moulton seems to be that he once said something along the lines of “I don’t want my daughters to have to play contact sports with formerly male athletes.” This seems like a ridiculous reason for Massachusetts “progressives” to throw him under the bus, but that’s exactly what they’re doing, including many of the activists from my church.

So now, I keep my mouth shut. I’m obviously going to vote for Markey over any Republican in the general election.

Markey is a tall old white man (not a known member of the LGBTQ community). He has no children. I believe he served in the Army Reserves during the Vietnam War. My favorite thing that he’s done as Senator was to speak out against the TikTok ban.

  2. Wait what ?..you don’t think older people should be in office yet that’s who you are gonna vote for. Personally that’s a hard sell for me. I am tired of white rich men over the age of retirement running the country no matter their affiliation. Fuck that.

      1. True..just feels like a no win situation. There is already war brewing between Socialist & Progressive democrats. Trust me, I as sick of this admin as everyone. I was speaking on principal.. i have been tired of no term limits, money running elections and the unfairness of tge electorial college. I guess I did read it wrong, and I apologize for making you think I want to keep America in a Facist state.

      2. I agree that it all does feel a bit hopeless at the moment. Hopefully we can somehow come together to boot the fascists and begin again – with far less corruption. Thanks for apologizing and I’m wishing you peace and peace of mind wherever you can find it these days. 🫶

  3. For what’s it worth Mary I agree that too many politicians these days are “over the hill”. They are completely out of touch with the younger generation and at the end of the day it is the 18-40 year olds who are going to have to live with the long term effects of what current Governments do.Andy Burnham, at 56, is actually connecting with that age group over here because he acknowledges the effect that positive social media can have on their understanding of politics.

    1. So true Tina. I’m sometimes shocked how little 18-40 year olds even understand about how politics work here. AOC and others have been good at bringing them up to speed via TikTok and other platforms. I’m glad to hear that Andy Burnham is changing the game over there. We haven’t heard too much about him yet here.

  5. Agreed. I have NPA, but I do have opinions about both, and I think Dems oftentimes throw the baby out w/the bathwater. Is that the phrase?

    Also, I do wish Baby Boomers would retire, not just in politics, but overall. Like, become consultants or something, but please make way for the literal THREE other generations behind them.

  6. Even if you disagree with Moulton’s opinion, you have to admit it’s not entirely unreasonable to think like that. I recently saw a picture of a muscular six foot three, 200 pound athlete playing in a women’s basketball league. She looked like a powerhouse. It didn’t seem fair.

    1. I agree. I’m no athlete, so worrying about who can play women’s sports is very far down on my list of concerns, but I wouldn’t want my granddaughters to have to worry about that in the future. Moulton got trounced in the primary by the way. 😠
