What’s a book, movie, or TV show that you wish you could experience again for the first time?
I’ve written before about seeing Star Wars and the big movie musicals of the late 70s over and over again. Grease in particular was so fun to see on the big screen for the first time. The “teenagers” in the movie were a few years older than me and they made high school look like, well…a Hollywood musical. What could be better? And it’s hard to explain just how appealing young John Travolta was back in the day.

OK, I looked it up and Travolta was actually 24 when he played Danny Zuko. And Jeff Conaway, who played Kenickie, was 28. (So I was a 13-year old lusting after grown men twice my age.)

Were several member of the cast also in the broadway show?
I mean, I’m hoping that’s why they were WAY too old to pull off playing high school kids.

Oh, good question. I didn’t see the Broadway show until years later. To me, the movie was the original Grease!

I thought I heard that Travolta played Danny in the original roadway show.
I know that when they made the movie version of rent, the entire original cast, except for one actor, returned for the movie. I figured maybe that was just the way they do it.

I do remember seeing this on tv years later, probably in late 80’s as a kid and i’d never seen a movie where all of a sudden they just burst into song and it confused me lol, but yes i loved it!!

That’s just the leap of faith that lovers of musical theater accept—everyone will periodically burst into song. You’re one of us CJ!
