What change, big or small, would you like your blog to make in the world?

OK, one reason I like my blog is that I feel free to say what I want, including about politics.

In the old days (before Trump), I thought Facebook and other emerging social media was fun. Find old friends and classmates, reminisce, post pics, share news, chat about nonsense, etc.

Then everything went to hell and I had real and permanent falling outs (fallings out?) with the Trumpers in my sphere, as did millions of others.

I’m still on Facebook, but I try not to post too many political things, with abortion access being an exception. (I will not shut my trap about that one until it’s no longer an issue or I’m dead.)

People who read and comment on my blog (and vice versa) are 99% online friends only. I will likely never meet them in real life. But there’s a freedom in that. They’re choosing to read my thoughts, and I theirs.

With 89 days left until we (hopefully) send Donald Trump packin’ for good, my Facebook and Instagram friends (all people I know or have known in real life) have my blog to thank for my relative level of self-control.

So, I can say this on my blog: I am loving the energy right now. From Kamala entering a packed and cheering rally to Beyoncé’s “Freedom” to the Tim Walz dad jokes. It’s soooo good. This is the kind of optimistic, joyful, caring country I want my granddaughter (coming soon) to grow up in.

  2. You bet! I haven’t felt this energy since 2008. I am hopeful. Very hopeful. Just had tea with a conservative friend who summers in Maine but lives (and votes!) In Pennsylvania. She is a “never Trumper” and will be voting for Harris. Woo-hoo!

      1. He probably is getting the exact opposite reception than JD. Decent guy vs the weird guy. The only thing I feel a little bad about is JD’s wife and kids have to listen to all the noise. I’m sure they didn’t sign up for that. Even if JD is a baffoon, I feel bad that the kids have to hear it. He should have taken this into consideration before accepting the #2 spot. Blinded by the thought of power…

  5. All of this. It’s a joy, and I’m doing more retweeting and reposting in other places than I have in a long while. I need to stop that, but want to be in the energy, too. 🙂 I love how you say they have this blog to thank. Haha

      1. Well, not much can top my middle child getting to shake his hand. 🙂 Oldest was a volunteer here too, so the energy was amazing. Still some time! Hah

      2. That’s so cool!! And game on, Florida! I’m always shocked when it goes red. (People I know there are NOT conservative lifestyle-wise.) It’s nice that your votes actually matter down there. Nobody ever campaigns in Massachusetts—they only come here for private fundraisers.

      3. It’s a strange environment, honestly. Most of the people in the immediate area I live in, are Republicans, but lots fewer Trump signs this time around. Still a fair number of big trucks with giant flags and intimidating stickers. However, drive to the area I grew up in, and there’s a lot more Dem. So yes, the vote really counts, however our little islands of blue are much smaller than they used to be. Maybe that changes this time around. Would love to see it. Would love to see Moderate not be a bad thing to be again as well, even though I’m personally fairly progressive.
