Daily writing prompt
What are the biggest mistakes people make when visiting your country?

I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but if I were you, I’d pass on visiting the US during the Trump administration. I really don’t think it’s safe for foreigners here at the moment. They’re even detaining the white ones.

I recommend going to Canada instead. It’s spectacular in the summer.

      1. It’s a car ferry that makes two trips to Bar Harbor a day, I think. Used to service Portland which would have been easier for us, but they downsized a few years back.

    1. We went during the city’s 400th(!) birthday celebration in ‘08. It’s that old! And so cool. I had to break out my very bad French for a second with a cabbie who did not speak English. Good thing I had brushed up on it a bit in advance.

  1. I totally agree. I was inn Vegas talking to the blackjack dealer and he said tourism to Vegas from Canada was down around 40%. Weird stat, I thought, but probably true. The World Cup is seeing less fans flying in. I don’t blame them. We are no longer a destination of choice.

    1. At least we’re not alone in our feelings.
And thanks! We had fun in Quebec City at their big 400th birthday party in ‘08. I was forced to break out my very bad French in a taxi. Not everyone speaks English there. I was surprised!

    1. I hope you have a great trip! Fortunately it’s a huge country, so the odds of everything being just fine for you are high. (We hear a lot about the troubles some people have, but statistically still quite a low percentage.)

  2. I lived in Canada for about six years, it was truly amazing. Every country has it’s ups and downs of course but for the most part I had a great time and made friends I still keep in touch with.
