Daily writing prompt
What are the biggest mistakes people make when visiting your country?
I hate to be a Debbie Downer, but if I were you, I’d pass on visiting the US during the Trump administration. I really don’t think it’s safe for foreigners here at the moment. They’re even detaining the white ones.
I recommend going to Canada instead. It’s spectacular in the summer.

It’s hard to believe that I live in Maine and have never been to Canada. Need to remedy that…

You must! I’ve only been to Toronto and Quebec, but loved both.

My husband wants to take the Cat from Bar Harbor to Nova Scotia and drive back. That would be fun…

It’s a car ferry that makes two trips to Bar Harbor a day, I think. Used to service Portland which would have been easier for us, but they downsized a few years back.

Quebec City is on my bucket list, for places within Canada!

We went during the city’s 400th(!) birthday celebration in ‘08. It’s that old! And so cool. I had to break out my very bad French for a second with a cabbie who did not speak English. Good thing I had brushed up on it a bit in advance.

I totally agree. I was inn Vegas talking to the blackjack dealer and he said tourism to Vegas from Canada was down around 40%. Weird stat, I thought, but probably true. The World Cup is seeing less fans flying in. I don’t blame them. We are no longer a destination of choice.

There are just so many different ways he has diminished our country. ☹️

I feel exactly the same way. Sweet picture of your family.

At least we’re not alone in our feelings.
And thanks! We had fun in Quebec City at their big 400th birthday party in ‘08. I was forced to break out my very bad French in a taxi. Not everyone speaks English there. I was surprised!

Agreed! Unfortunately my mom still wants us to visit soon as we have family there that we haven’t seen in forever. So, quickly popping in and out soon, while praying for the best.

I hope you have a great trip! Fortunately it’s a huge country, so the odds of everything being just fine for you are high. (We hear a lot about the troubles some people have, but statistically still quite a low percentage.)

True, that’s my only comfort. Plus my trip last November was also uneventful 🤗

I lived in Canada for about six years, it was truly amazing. Every country has it’s ups and downs of course but for the most part I had a great time and made friends I still keep in touch with.

How wonderful! As far as I can tell, the only big drawback is the very cold winter weather up there. Thanks for sharing that. 😊

Yeah, winter can be harsh but the where we were (Niagara Region) wasn’t too bad. I love cold weather though so maybe that’s just me 😂
