The “Stronger Together: Art for Democracy” opening was last night and it was disappointing. My painting had the worst placement of all. It was at the very end, in a dark area, and up so high you’d have to be like 7 feet tall to look directly at it. It was definitely not the Bucket List experience I was thinking it might be.

The piece that won was made on a computer with Canva. The person who made it said it was her first time using Canva.

The best part of the event was the lovely centerpiece.

A lot of effort went into creating this exhibit, so I shouldn’t complain.
But hey, it’s my blog and I’ll complain if I want to. 😉

The winning one is a peice of shite! Yours is so much better. I’m sorry.

I think it’s fantastic that you put yourself out there and tried!! And your painting was amazing! I don’t understand at all how the poster beat you nevermind 1st place 😩

Sorry your piece wasn’t given better placement…. but the winning piece? Ugh. That’s not art, it’s a motivational poster. And as far as I’m concerned computer art isn’t art.

Right? And some of the images within the letters were from the internet too

Thanks for the support Laurie! Art is subjective, but yeah, I’m pretty annoyed

You have every right to be. As others have pointed out, the winning piece was a poster that was more graphic art than art.

Sorry to hear of the placement of your work. Very sad to hear. I am 5ft 7ins.

Understand your disappointment, but hey, girlfriend, an amazing achievement? Well done! When you think back to when you were worried about filling in your retirement days: you keep opening those damn doors !

Thanks for your support May. I’m not sure I’ve figured out this retirement thing yet, but painting certainly helped me get through the winter. I’ll keep at it. 😀

That’s right. Your piece is best seen straight forward where you can take in details like a photograph!

Thanks for recognizing that Stephanie. The show is traveling to a local museum, so maybe they’ll hang it lower there.

I love yours so much, and I’m really glad you entered. It’s honestly inspiring. I’m sorry it didn’t win. 💜

Thank you so much for your very kind words Kari. I definitely didn’t expect to win, but really wish it’d been hung where regular-height people could’ve appreciated it.

What? Are you kidding me? That poster won over your painting? That’s some horse sh**.

It feels like cheating. I’m not saying it’s not art, but it shouldn’t win an “art contest”

Thank you! The medium was listed as: “Digital Media.” That should not be allowed to compete with handmade projects!! I love all the back-up I get here.🙏🏼😀

Welp. Here we are, I guess.
If it’s any consolation, I thought it was really good, insightful, and commemorative of the awful situation.
