The chickens next door are attracting this guy:

I considered my chicken problem solved when I vanquished the annoying rooster last year, but now I have a coyote problem. I was actually scared to walk home yesterday because this fellow was standing on my sidewalk, not at all concerned about being out in broad daylight. To get home, I would’ve had to walk within 30 feet of him. I called my husband to come pick me up in the car.
He clearly wants to eat one of the chickens next door, who periodically roam freely in our yard. Frankly, I’d love to see it. I keep looking out my window waiting for my Wild Kingdom moment, but it hasn’t happened yet.
If I had small children or pets, I’d probably be Karening this situation by now. I would’ve had the Board of Health over here (again) to complain about the chickens attracting coyotes. But I don’t, so I’m just going to wait and see what happens.
GenX, let me know if you remember watching “Mutual of Omaha’s Wild Kingdom” on Sunday nights with your family. I think it was the first show to introduce us to both the beauty and the brutality of the animal kingdom. Some of those lion takedowns were epic. It showed us that predator-prey relationships are just part of nature.

Good luck to those chickens! Living on the edge of the woods, we have lots of wildlife, seldom seen. But sometimes they make their presence felt. Years ago, a bear smashed flat one of our bird feeders and left a big pile of scat as a calling card. And hawks have taken out a couple of our neighbor’s chickens. As you noted, Nature is not always pretty. We’ve had cats disappear, and we think that something in the woods got them. A fisher maybe. Or perhaps a coyote.

Oh my goodness! I’ve never seen a bear or a fisher cat in the wild. The neighbor (on the other side) had their small dog murdered by a bird-of-prey (a hawk we think). It swooped down and punctured her little chest with its beak. It was horrific for them, but a powerful Wild Kingdom moment for us. (We were not fans of that little yapper 😉.)

Oh, dear
Hopefully a call to the local animal control office could remove his menacing presence. Be safe and be careful.

I don’t know. He doesn’t have rabies. Looks very healthy. I don’t think animal control would get involved. Thanks for your concern!

OMG… Wild Kingdom! We watched that religiously every week. That’s a walk down memory lane! Thank you!
Yeah, I’d want to watch a chicken take down, too. Can’t help it. We grew up on Wild Kingdom. I blame it on that!

Definitely. They didn’t sugar coat it. And isn’t it funny how most of us will never see Omaha, but we will remember the name of that insurance company for the rest of our lives. Brilliant branding for them.

Hahaha… so true. When I was a kid, I didn’t realize it was an insurance company!

Right! It was confusing. What in the heck did “mutual” have to do with that Native American chief in the logo.
