The hardest part about knowing Trumpers

I think the hardest part about having Trump voters/donors in your life is feeling like they don’t know the difference between right and wrong.

Even if it’s someone you thought you knew well, there’s like this suspicion that never really goes away. You’re pretty sure they’d have your back if things got bad. But would they?

If they turned a blind eye to the Access Hollywood tape in 2016 and voted for Trump, do they actually think that women deserve to be treated equally in our society?

If they never said a word of condemnation of the January 6th insurrection, do they really think that every person’s vote should count in America?

If they twist and dispute the most basic facts about climate science or vaccines, do they disbelieve in experts, and therefore education itself?

If they’re OK with a President who posts vile things constantly including a video of Black people as apes, are they really OK to have around your children and grandchildren?

It’s painful to say this but I’m finding that even a lifetime of actions to the contrary cannot erase the doubts introduced by this one thing.

  1. I have a mother-in-law whom I don’t really like (she’s from my first marriage). She and her sister in essence broke up over Trump – she hasn’t spoken to her sister in however long, since Trump’s first election. I know that’s a brash move and not always wise, but in this case my esteem for my mother-in-law rose because she broke ties with her sister. Heck, I don’t like her sister a lot more than I don’t like her. And now, whoa, that divide is even greater.

That’s a convoluted way to say that I agree with you!

  2. I’ve debated and argued and bombarded friends with facts for years to no avail. Of course they all deny those pesky things called facts… fake news dontcha know.
It’s maddening and at this point? I’m done. There’s no reasoning with the MAGA faithful, they’ve bought the con and drank the Koolaid. Our only hope is to rise up and eliminate the majority in November and impeach this moron and nullify his cabinet of sycophants.

    1. You’re right. There’s no reasoning with them, so if you want to keep them in your life at all, you have to avoid pretty much avoid every subject including the weather. I’ve found that safe subjects include: cats; fashion; and documentaries about musicians. After that, I’m out of neutral topics.
Let’s hope that free and fair elections happen in November and that we can take back Congress. Dare we even dream about IMPEACHMENT. That would be amazing!
