My father turned 91 yesterday. My granddaughter will turn 1 next month. And this beloved poem from The Prophet by Kahlil Gibran, which I first read in college, still resonates so deeply with me.

“Your children are not your children.
They are the sons and daughters of Life’s longing for itself.”
Sweet Honey in the Rock’s version

I love this and had not read it for a long time. Thank you. ❤ Happy 91st to your father and soon to come 1 to your granddaughter!

I love the 90 year difference between the generations. What a wonderful thing, a great grandfather able to see the little one.

I agree. It’s wild thinking of my father as a baby in 1934 and then imagining my granddaughter at his age in 2114! 🙏🏼
