I am continuing my weekly grandma snuggling sessions with my adorable granddaughter and I really wish everyone had such an amazing option. I know she won’t be so sleepy forever, and that we will be doing a lot of fun, active stuff in the future, but for now, this is perfect. She is perfect. Her mom and dad are doing such a great job taking care of her, there’s not all that much else to do. Snuggling is Job One.
The best is when she falls into a very deep sleep on me and stays that way for a couple of hours. When she’s awake, she is very cute and smiley, but there’s only so long you can stay awake when you’re busy growing so fast!

For all the folks dreading dealing with MAGA relatives on Thanksgiving, I recommend yesterday’s post in The Brevity Blog by guest blogger Andrea Tate, as well as her original, viral day-after-the-election piece in The Huffington Post. There’s nothing normal about any of this.

Just read Andrea Tate’s post : so powerful. Powerful is also the way I would describe the photo of you and your Little Person. Hold on to that love with everything you can muster.

I can’t imagine a more contented face. Well done. 😀 Read the Huff Post piece and it makes me appreciate my ex more. He’s not devastated, but he didn’t vote for Trump (unlike his family) and is aware of most of the stakes. I think he just sees it as an intelligence test, so is a little smug, which isn’t that helpful. But not hurtful, either. My son will likely spend Thanksgiving with he and his family, but middle child is opting out, can’t imagine having to endure hearing even one jokey conversation.

I’m with your middle child! It’s too hard to have free flowing, relaxed and enjoyable conversations with MAGA in the room. One solution: invite the MAGAs for dinner only (or show up for dinner only, if you’re the guest). Keep apps and drinks for the likeminded. It’s not too hard to find neutral conversation for the length of the meal only—talking about the food can take up a good 30 minutes. My husband’s family is all hardcore liberals. More minefields on my side, unfortunately. 😟

Even my gay ex-bil voted for Trump, I think I can’t be sure, but he is very unusual with the balances he draws, devoted to family and willing to hide/not share a lot about his life. 😦
Since my son will spend Thanksgiving there (he hates the dynamics even without politics because everyone gets drunk and some behave awfully), we’ll have our simple little holiday another day. We can’t do it Black Friday cause it’s middle child’s birthday and she hates that, but we’ll figure it out. 🙂
My side of the family tips into Trump worship, rather than just thinking they are making calculated choices. It’s weirder, but I oddly have more compassion because it comes from some kind of desperation. Ex’s family are all very successful and I’ve never quite figured out why they have such huge ugly chips on their shoulders.

Agree. The rich MAGAs are worse. All they care about is their portfolios. The Wall Street Journal editorial board types.

That’s it. There’s a might-makes-right mentality.
