Rain, rain go away

As of today, May 31, 2025, Greater Boston is experiencing its 12th consecutive rainy weekend. Since early March, every weekend has included some measurable rainfall, with more than half of those weekends seeing rain on both Saturday and Sunday.

GenX, there are a couple of rain songs from our childhood that will never leave my brain.

The first is “Rainy Days and Mondays” by The Carpenters. It came out in 1971.

The other one is “Raindrops Keep Falling on My Head” by BJ Thomas. (I didn’t know the artist. I looked it up just now.) It came out in 1969, so perhaps only older GenXers like me remember this one. Apparently it was featured in the movie “Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid,” but I don’t remember that. I just remember singing the song along with the radio, with the most memorable line being “Just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed.” I always pictured that guy. His feet must have been enormous.

What are your rain songs? You know—those songs that just emerge in your brain on rainy days.

Heat wave luncheon

What foods would you like to make?

I made Grilled Chicken Salad for my dear book group friends yesterday. This was the second time I’ve made it and I can confirm that it’s a good and reliable recipe.

I found napkin folding demos on YouTube. That one is called “rose.”

Dessert was made by Whole Foods.

Unfortunately, it was too darn hot to eat on the porch, but later we had a lovely, strong thundershower.

The sound is very soothing.

Rain Camping

Daily writing prompt
Have you ever been camping?

Yes, I have been camping. And not just regular camping, but hike-up-a-mountain-with-everything-on-your back-and-sleep-in-a-tent-in-the-rain camping.

In addition, I have taken young children camping—also in the rain.

Anyone can camp in good weather. The misery of hiking, cooking and sleeping outside in the rain requires fortitude.

WordPress, I demand an A+ on this assignment!

Kids do not care if it rains while you’re camping. They think it’s fun to eat dinner in their sleeping bags.

“No amount of rain could put a damper on outlook of Patriots quarterbacks Mac Jones, Bailey Zappe”

Scour the news for an entirely uninteresting story. Consider how it connects to your life. Write about that.

I took this week off work and was planning to do fun “stay-cation” activities, but it’s pouring (again).

Therefore, the “entirely uninteresting” news story I chose to read was weather-related. It was about how two young quarterbacks deal with practicing in the rain at the New England Patriots training camp. Spoiler alert: they are both up for the challenge!

It connects to my life in that I could probably get up off the couch and do some yoga or something, given that Zappe and Jones are out there flinging wet footballs.
