I’m not sure why it’s taken me so long to realize that women’s eyebrows fade away as they age.
I recently posted about feeling pretty darn good about how I looked all dressed up for the first time since turning 60. Not to rain on my own parade of self-confidence, but the one exception was my eyebrows. Where’d they go? I did use a colored gel product on them, but clearly it was not enough.
Soooo, having spent an embarrassing amount of time watching complicated eyebrow tutorials, I’ve decided this quick and easy one is the easiest to follow:
My beautiful 60+ friend Susan recommended the very cheap and readily available (at CVS) wet n wild ultimate brow retractable pencil, which I bought in Ash Brown (because ChatGPT said that was the best color for me) and I think it was a good call.
I’m not usually on here with make-up tips, but hey…if I have one, I’ll share it.😊

You’re so not alone! I’m only 45 and mine turned blond and gray with some natural brown. ☹️

And it’s like you don’t really notice it until you see photos of yourself. Gray eyebrow hairs are the worst. Little wires!

I have this happening too at 48…i refuse to buy expensive eyebrow products so i save mascaras and colour in a bit with a mascara wand…when it’s run out for lashes, it gives just enough for brows!

Mine are still very visible, but they, like my hair, were nearly black when I was young. Perhaps that makes a difference.
Lovely picture of you in your younger years.

Brunettes for the win!🥇(I was fairly blonde as a kid. Maybe my lovely daughter will get to keep hers too.)

Fingers crossed! But as you noted, there are solutions.

I have to fill mine in every time I leave the house, because they get lighter and lighter from the middle outward. Yesterday I watched videos about laminating, but so expensive then with upkeep too. I’m already spending too much on roots, but have to get better at my new job before I take any risks with presentation. lol

Lamination?? I just heard about microblading. I can’t keep up!

Hah. Microblading is like tattooing eyebrows on, whereas laminating takes the ones you have and kind of perms/dyes them to be in better shape. My hairdresser used to color my eyebrows with my hair, but the last time I asked for that the stylist said she wasn’t allowed.

So many options! If I was still going into an office everyday, I might explore some of the semi-permanent solutions. Applying and removing make-up daily is such a hassle.

Agreed! And also the care skin needs in between!

Ha! I was just discussing this with my husband about how it is a common thing for women. He thought it was because many of us used to pluck, wax, or thread. I assured him it was due to hormones 🙄

Is that the real reason? I didn’t even know! (This is why you have a PhD and I don’t!) Makes sense though. I should be grateful that the hair on my head is still pretty full. So many woman have problems with hair loss related to menopause.

lol
And yes about the hair on the head. All of it is related to menopause / hormone loss and gain. Lose the hair we want and gain some where we don’t want 😂

I’ve heard of people tattooing eyebrows. That must really hurt!
When I read the title, I thought about Peter Paul and Mary’s Where have all the Flowers Gone…

I agree—I would never get my face tattooed in any way. Ouch.
And yes, that song was the reference!

Glad you found a tutorial that wasn’t too hard to follow, some of them are way to complicated and use so many products. Some people use eyeshadow for their eyebrows too with an eyebrow stencil.

Oh really? I can’t keep up! I did like that Wet n Wild recommendation- it’s so cheap and works.

Yeah Wet N Wild is good, ELF is also really good quality and affordable. That’s the one I use for my eyebrows.
