America the Beautiful

I just turned my house upside down looking for our “America the Beautiful” National Parks Annual Senior Pass that we bought last year to go to Yellowstone and Grand Tetons. It lets people 62+ get a whole car full of people into any national park for free. (It only costs $20, if you buy it in person.)

Good news! I found our pass in my husband’s wallet, even though he checked there himself. (Senior citizens cannot be trusted in these matters!) And even better, it’s good through September 30. So, I can book a post-Labor Day trip to one of our great national parks. I basically have to, right? I can’t let that Senior Pass go to waste!

I thought about Yosemite, because it’s such a wildly popular national park, especially for international travelers, but that’s a big commitment for people from the East Coast.

So, the national park I’ve most wanted to return to for many years (I haven’t been there since 1976) and that my husband has never been to is….

Drumroll

ACADIA

In the great state of Maine.

I’m going through my Bucket List so fast you guys. I’ll be good to kick it by the time I’m 65. 😉

      1. He did, at least once. I heard a speech where he was trying to be overly patriotic and gushing about the national parks, and he said.
        “Yo-Semite”

That’s great news about Acadia! Have a wonderful trip!

    1. Great! Have fun! I think the parks are a lot less crowded when school is in session, but I’ve heard the rangers do a great job handling crowds in the summer too. Don’t forget, if you have an access pass, you can go in the shorter line at the park entrance because you don’t need to buy a ticket 😊

  1. Arcadia sounds wonderful. We have a friends who go every year and come back with amazing pics. Yosemite and Yellowstone are both on my list. Zion was amazing when we went a few years ago. We used to live in VA and have traveled often to Shenandoah. Love the peacefulness there.

    1. Zion looks amazing. My daughter drove through Shenandoah last year and the pictures looked beautiful. I’m sure you have been to Gettysburg? That’s a different kind of National Park, but really cool. We’ve got Minuteman National Park right here in Concord, which I should probably go visit one more time before my pass expires!

    1. Yes, it’s definitely still on my list, but I want to somehow combine it with other things in California. (there are no direct flights to that area from Boston) it’s a big commitment to drive there from LA or SF. What was your favorite part of Yosemite?

  2. Glad you found that ticket! And if you have time to meet somewhere for lunch, let me know. (If not, I will understand.) Not sure what your route will be, but we don’t mind a bit of a drive. We live in the Augusta area.
