What’s your all-time favorite album?
My husband and I recently cleaned out our attic and ended up selling both of our vinyl record collections to a local record dealer. It was sad, but they were getting warped in the attic and we don’t even have a turntable anymore. His albums were worth more than mine because he had a lot of obscure hardcore/punk and niche local bands. Mine were mostly pop, with some Broadway mixed in.
Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors and Carole King’s Tapestry were two that I really hated to give away, because I loved all the songs and the cover photos. But the album that I think I’ve listened to more than any other is Bob Marley Legend, which is basically a compilation of his greatest hits.
It came out in 1984 and was a college staple for me. Ten years later, we danced to “Is this Love” at our wedding reception and just recently listened to it for the umpteenth time on a short road trip. It has withstood the test of time!
So rise up this mornin’ and smile with the risin’ sun, cuz every little thing gonna be alright GenX. We’re good.

Addendum: My husband, who is a couple years older, would choose The Clash’s London Calling.

This was definitely a college favorite of mine. Spent many night with friends playing this all the way through. I was a bit sad to hear about your record collection, but I understand. I gave up mine a while back. I still have my CDs and recently retrieved them from storage. I’ll have to pull Bon Marleys out for a listen. Thanks for the reminder of Legend. It brought back a lot of good memories.

We got rid of our CDs too, which was pretty harsh. But there was really no good way to listen to them anymore. Even my car has no CD player. Can’t wait til you reveal your favorite album selection!! Tough choice.

It’s funny, I donated my turn table, CD player, speakers and the entire system about 15 years ago. I was hoping to find an old Sony discman in storage, too, but no go! So I have hundreds of CDs here without a way to listen to them. I’m going to go on Amazon to pick something up. I had this inkling when I was at the donation center…. Ah well, I’m sure it went to someone who is enjoying it!

We still have ours and recently bought a turntable and stand, but we went through our collections and got rid of some and kept the rest. So many great songs and I love Tapestry too. I can’t really pick a favorite though, but those old albums and songs bring back great memories.

They really do! Have you seen “Beautiful” the musical? If you like Carole King, you’ll love it!
